Hot-weather tips for bus riders

With outside temperatures on the rise, METRO Transit customers should plan for warmer temperatures inside buses, as well.

Keep the windows closed. It may sometimes feel like the air conditioning is not working well. That's because transit buses have significant glass surfaces that allow the sun to warm the interior. Bus doors also open and close frequently. These factors make it challenging to keep the interior cool. The best way for the air conditioning to be effective is to leave the windows closed.

If possible, travel early or late in the day when temperatures are cooler. If you can, wait for a less crowded bus. And don't forget to dress for the weather on these hotter days. Remove jackets and sweaters you wear in air conditioned buildings before you board the bus.

METRO Transit also encourages you to drink plenty of water to stay hydrated.

Clean Hands Save Lives!

Hand cleaning is simple but serious! It's particularly important on public transportation, as riders can come into contact with many things - seats, doors, windows, fare boxes, passes and even germs. Without proper hand cleaning, a single infection can quickly spread among riders.

Keeping hands clean is one of the most important steps we can take to avoid getting sick and spreading germs to others. It is best to wash your hands with soap and clean running water for 20 seconds. However, if soap and clean water are not available, use an alcohol-based product to clean your hands. Alcohol-based hand rubs significantly reduce the number of germs on skin and are fast acting.
