A Renaissance

Thurman Magbee Purchases Union Station

With a deep sense of personal affection and civic responsibility, WWII veteran and Oklahoma City businessman Thurman Magbee resurrected old Union Station when he purchased the facility in 1978, fully restoring the proud structure to become the headquarters for his wholesale appliance distribution company.

When Magbee purchased the station and its building plans, the interior was carefully redesigned to facilitate useable office space while faithfully retaining the original character and physical integrity of the historic station.

Full restoration and improvements were made at Magbee’s own expense at an estimated cost of $3.5 million.  Added to the National Registry of Historic Places in 1978 as an historic landmark, the station would remain in Magbee’s care and ownership until 1986.
